In this first episode of Hands-on Photo Tips, I am explaining how you can save time and effort in Photoshop by combining layer masks. If you are applying selective adjustments to your images, you may end up with a number of layers, each with their own mask. Sometimes, combining existing masks into a new one helps you to quickly isolate an area that you need to work on next.
In this video, I will show you two quick ways of doing this.

About Klaus Herrmann
Thanks, Klaus!
Hi Rob! You gave me a nice topic for the first video! Thanks you!
At last someone who explains in detail (several ways) and doesn’t rush through when demonstrating.
Waiting for the #2.
Cheers
Tony
P.S. Like your photos too.
Thanks, Tony! Nice to hear that the tempo suits you!
Cheers
Excellent video tutorial – good information here. I also like that the video is in high enough resolution that I can view it full screen to see all the details, just as if it were running on my computer.
Hi Bosque,
So, resolution is important after all!
Exactly that was my intent: Create a feeling for you as if it was on your own computer. I will try to sustain the 1080p resolution for the coming videos and try not to exceed any god-given limit set by YouTube.
Cheers
Excellent. I look forward to the next installment.
Great Tips!!!. Thanks you for that.
Can’t wait for next Tips.
Me neither, Hemant! Stay tuned!
Very good tips Klaus. You’re instructions are easy to follow and your presentation is very good. Hey! you don’t look so bad on video either!…LOL!
Hi Pat,
thanks, man! Recording video like this took a bit of adjustment on my part (technically and personally). I am used to speaking in front of crowds, but this is different. I am glad to hear that it did not look too bad.
Cheers
Klaus
Thx very much Klaus

Klaus — I just had the chance to watch the video. Great job! This gives a lot of context to some of your other, more high-speed videos (the making of… videos.) I’m glad you took the time to teach this for the benefit of everyone.
Cheers!
Rob
Klaus,
Its all been said above but many thanks for a very informative presentation. Seeing it done practically makes it much easier than trying to follow a written narrative.
Regards,
Paul
Everytime visiting your HP and instructions there is a lot new to learn. Thx so much!
