How it was shot

How it was stitched and tonemapped

  • Preparation: Developed the RAW files in ACR (consistent white balance, CA correction [details])
  • Created 5 HDRs (32 bit) using Photomatix Pro 4.0
  • Stitched the 5 HDRs using Photoshop and saved in OpenEXR format (some distortion correction and cropping before saving)
  • Tonemapped resulting panorama HDR using Photomatix Pro 4.0 (Detail Enhancer)
  • Saved as 16bit TIF

How it was post-processed

  • Post-processing was done in Photoshop CS4
  • Topaz Adjust on the entire image to get back the colors and the details [details]
  • Topaz Denoise [details]
  • Saturation layer on all the marble elements (slight desaturation)
  • Levels layer on all the marble elements (brightening)
  • Saturation layer on the all the red/yellow/orange elements (master)
  • Saturation layer on the confessionals (slight desaturation)
  • Levels layer on the confessionals (brightening)
  • Sharpening using the high-pass filter [details]
  • Watermarking

What kind of tripod / camera mount are you using? You’d have to maintain the position of the CCD at the rotational center of at least one (if not all three) of the vertices in order to ensure perfect alignment between all exposures in the raw image set, right? So it can’t be anything like the Bogen ball and socket pistol grips I’m familiar with. Seems like you’d need like a gyroscope device, (like I’ve seen on certain globes) that would allow the camera to rotate X-Y-Z within a spherical space without altering it’s center-point position. WHAT IS YOUR SECRET WEAPON?! I must know! Thanks. -N8
