Nik HDR Efex Pro Control Points – How to Use Them Cleverly

This video tutorial is an excerpt of the Nik HDR Efex Pro section from the Ultimate HDR Master Class 2017. You will learn how to use Nik HDR Efex Pro’s control point feature most effectively to apply an adjustment to irregularly shaped regions in your images.

If you want to apply any of Nik HDR Efex Pro’s native effects locally, this is the way to go.

Nik HDR Efex Pro has been made freely available recently, as has the rest of the Nik Collection. And ‘Free’ is always a great reason to consider a software. So if you have not downloaded it yet, try it out.

In a Nutshell…

Nik HDR Efex Pro’s control points let you apply specific adjustments to a small region of your image. They do this by letting you define a circular area within which the software will identify similar tones and colors to apply the adjustments to.

If you make that circle too big, the application may have a hard time figuring out which pixels it should select.

The trick is to apply a number of smaller control points to the area to confine the effect exactly to where you want to have it.
