Selective Noise Reduction for Your HDR Images in Lightroom

Most standard HDR workflows have a tendency to increase the noise in your images. In this video, I’ll show you how to reduce the noise only in some of your source photos to target specific areas of your final HDR image. This simple technique effectively reduces the noise where it is most prominent without making the rest of the image too soft.

In a Nutshell…

We’re going to select the source exposures that will contribute to the sky in the final HDR image to reduce the noise specifically in the large blue areas where it would be most noticeable. The remaining parts of these photos are underexposed and will not be used eventually. In all the other source images we only apply little or no noise reduction to preserve the details in those areas.
