Personal Workflow for Lightroom

In my video course Personal Workflow for Lightroom, I will show you the three big steps: Import, management, and the editing process. This is perfect if you are still learning Lightroom as this is your crash course to get up to speed in no time. But even if you are already an advanced user, you will learn some new tricks.

The course is 2 hours long and the original raw images used for the image editing part are included. I even included the HDR image that we create in the course so that you can still follow along if you are working with Lightroom version 4 or 5. Simply import the HDR image available in the course resources and you’re good to go for the rest of the course.

1. How to Import Your images [22:22]
   • In this lesson, you will learn all the ins and outs of importing your images into Lightroom. We will go through the import process, and I will show you all the options that help you streamline your workflow and let Lightroom do the work for you wherever possible.
2. How to Manage Your Images [16:56]
   • I’ll explain the process of organizing your images in greater detail. This is a very important process that allows you to find your images quickly and cut through the clutter of potentially hundreds of thousands of images you’re shooting. It includes three main actions: stacking, rating, keywording. We’re going to go through a sample import, and I’ll show you how to apply these actions and which principles to apply when you do so.
3. How to Edit Globally (1 of 2) [30:44]
   • In this lesson, we will actually start editing the image by applying a number of global adjustments. I will show you how to make some basic tonal adjustments to your images and how to use the Tone Curve tab.
4. How to Edit Globally (2 of 2) [25:20]
   • I will show you how to work your way down the tabs in the Develop module and apply all the adjustments required for your image.
5. How to Work With Local Adjustments [12:48]
   • I will show you how to edit specific areas of an image without affecting the rest of it. We’re going to use the local adjustment tools to achieve that. Specifically, I will show you how to use the Radial Filter and the Adjustment Brush.
6. Virtual Copies and Exporting [9:55]
   • In this lesson, you will learn how to use virtual copies to quickly create different versions of an image. Then, we will go through the process of exporting an image to use it outside of Lightroom.

Personal Workflow for Photoshop

In this 2.5-hour video course, you will learn the ins and outs of a professional, fully non-destructive Photoshop workflow. I am covering everything from start to finish, starting with the preparation of your raw images in Adobe Camera Raw (Photoshop’s raw processing software), through the various processing steps, all the way to the export of the final image. Learn how to set up and develop even the most complex Photoshop projects. No plugins or other software is required. So if you have Photoshop, you’re good to go.

The course is 2.5 hours long and the original raw images used for the image editing part are included. If you work with Photoshop CS4, CS5 or CS6, you will still be able to follow along as the HDR image we create in Adobe Camera Raw at the beginning is included in the course resources.

   • In this lesson, you will learn how to structure your Photoshop project to make best use of layer masks and to not lose track of your edits at any time. Then, we’re going to start adding adjustments to make the sky pop.

   • In this lesson, I will teach you how to use the Quick selection tool in combination with the Refine Edge tool to create precise selections and masks. You will also learn a few more masking tricks and an advanced technique for bringing out the details in your photos.
6. Editing the Trees [10:16]
   • In this lesson, you will learn how to combine exiting masks to create a new one. You will also learn how to use masking and a Photo Filter layer to colorize areas with low saturation.
7. Adding Global Adjustments [5:35]
   • In this lesson, I will show you how to add global adjustments on top of all your local adjustments such that each adjustment is independent and can be changed individually.
8. Removing Dust Spots and the Power of Smart Objects [4:32]
   • In this short lesson, I will demonstrate how smart objects can really allow you to edit your images very flexibly.
9. Refinement Phase [8:29]
   • In this lesson, you will learn about the importance and the right approach to revising your images. I will show you how I go about revising my own images to apply those finishing touches to them.
10. Exporting the Image [13:27]
    • In this lesson, I will go through the process of exporting your final image to a file format that can be used on the web or in some other publishing process.
